STATE- LEVEL LEGISLATON - 2012

Virginia state (commonwealth) legislative issues are worked through the Joint Leadership Council (JLC) of Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs).  MOAA is one of the larger VSOs, and through the Virginia Council of Chapters takes a leadership role in establishing objectives.    Each year objectives are established so that the VSOs are speaking with one voice as they advocate for state legislation in support of Virginia's military, guard, reserve, veterans and their families.  Starting this year, JLC objectives were combined with objectives of Virginia Board of Veterans Services (BVS).
State legislative objectives can be found on the VCOC MOAA website, VirginiaMOAA.com, in state legislative section (you may use this link):  http://virginiamoaa.com/statelegislative/2012stateobjectives.html

2012 STATE LEGISLATIVE ISSUES INCLUDE:
_ Handling of unclaimed cremated remains of veterans

_ Staffing of Veterans Care Centers, Veterans Services benefit-claims agents, & Coordinators to assist homeless veterans
_ Site study for future Veterans Care Center in Hampton – Ft Monroe or grounds of Hampton VA Medical Center..

SUMMARY PAGE is in the document below.  You may also scroll down to see the NINE individual position papers presented to General Assembly Members 23 Jan 2012.

Five VIPMOAA members were among 51 leaders of MOAA’s 18 Virginia chapters at the 15th annual Virginia MOAA Day at the General Assembly, January 23rd.  The Richmond event, also known as “storming capitol hill” is a forum for MOAA chapter members to meet with their state delegates and senators about legislature to support Virginia’s military, reservists, national guard and their families.
