“Giving frees us from the familiar territory of our own needs by opening our mind to other unexplained worlds occupied by the needs of others” Barbara Bush
We have several essential positions that have been open for quite some time. We have managed to accomplish the duties of these functions with the same few volunteers, but they are also the ones doing the other critical functions and they are getting tired. We need permanent volunteers for the positions outlined herein. Here goes our wish list for 2012.
Hospitality Coordinator & Programs Officer, for monthly meetings.

| PAGE 7 - 2012 VETERANS LEGISLATION UPDATE (STATE) BY DELEGATE KIRK COX - HOUSE MAJORITY LEADER, VIRGINIA GENERAL ASSEMBLY
"The procedures for addressing veteran related legislation has changed for the better for this Session. In previous years the Joint Leadership Council (JLC), representing 23 of the major veteran services organizations in VA, developed and prioritized a list of legislative objectives for the General Assembly to consider. This was often accomplished independent of the Governor's budget submission process. This year the JLC objectives were combined with the Board of Veteran Services (BVS) legislative objectives earlier in the budget cycle and presented to the Governor. As a result of this improved process several of the JLC and BVS objectives were incorporated into the Governor's budget and his legislative agenda resulting in a solid legislative package for consideration by the General Assembly." Continued on next page.

| PAGE 8 - CONTINUED COX VETERANS UPDATE
Governor McDonnell announced his full veterans' legislative program during his address to the Joint Leadership Council (JLC) during their afternoon session. He has proposed a very aggressive agenda this year that will go a long way toward achieving his goal to make Virginia the most veteran friendly state in the nation. I am proud to help support this effort.
In the first three days of the session, a total of 66 veteran/military related pieces of legislation were introduced in the General Assembly. The DVS matrix of Military and Veterans Bills for the 2012 General Assembly Session is a very useful document published by Steve Combs (DVS). You may sign up to receive email updates on the progress of the DVS legislation by visiting their website, www.dvs.virginia.gov.
