      FRANCIS TAVENNER Jr. COL USA RETIRED

      Frank is a native Virginian, born in Arlington, VA and raised in Warrenton, VA.  He graduated from the University of Virginia in 1970, and went to work for the U.S. Navy Department and joined the USAR the following year.  

      He maintained parallel careers as a Navy civilian from 1970-2006 and Army Reservist from 1971-2004.  He met his wife of 35 years, Maria, at work in the Navy, and has a son and daughter and six grandchildren.

      A graduate of the National Defense University at Fort McNair in Washington, DC, his senior Army positions included Missile/Munitions Division Chief of the 55th Materiel Management Center during Operation Joint Endeavor, Director for Contracting in the 9th Theater Support Command, and Commander of the Army’s LOGCAP Support Unit during Operations Noble Eagle and Iraqi Freedom.  He retired in 2003 and, due to the urgency of need during Operation Iraqi Freedom, volunteered for and was immediately recalled from retirement to serve another year of active service.  His awards include the Legion of Merit, multiple awards of the Meritorious Service Medal and Army Commendation Medal, and the NATO Medal.
